Recommended amount of dietary fiber is 20 to 30 grams daily. Foods contain both insoluble and insoluble fiber in different amounts. You can get fiber from: breads, cereals, pasta, rice and popcorns, fruits, vegetables and legumes. Even dried fruits contain fiber. Specific foods that are high in fiber are: legumes and lentils like beans, peas and garbanzos; dried fruits like figs and dates; fruits like berries, apples, banana; nuts like peanuts, almonds; whole wheat products; oats and rye; vegetables like broccoli, carrot, potato, spinach, turnip greens; and coconut. You should, however, check out the fat content of these foods, like coconut and nuts.
