Fiber, the way to go

We often see and hear commercials that say “high in fiber, low in fat”. Why would you want a high-fiber diet?
Fibers are found in plants, and it is not considered a source of nutrients, like vitamins or minerals. Instead, it acts as a “cleansing agent” for the digestive system. Foods from animals do not contain fiber.
Fiber from foods, or dietary fiber, have two categories: insoluble and soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water, and serves as a natural laxative. It allows the bowel to move faster, so stool does not remain in the intestines for a long period, avoiding formation of toxins.
