More on Fibers

fiber2.jpgFiber – the continuation

As fiber helps bowel movement, it also helps reduce the probability of colon cancer, since the intestinal tract is regularly “cleansed”.

Soluble fiber is a gel-like material that dissolves in water. It helps reduce blood cholesterol by binding with bile acids and flushing it out of the body. A reduced bile acid translates to a reduced level of cholesterol, since the liver converts cholesterol to bile acids.

An increase in fiber intake may cause some uncomfortable changes for those who are new to this kind of diet. One may experience diarrhea, increase in intestinal gas, bloating and stomach pain. These symptoms fade as one adjusts to the diet.
