Embarking on the Fitness Journey (Part 2)

4. Seek Support. Exercise and healthy eating are easier when you have a friend who shares your vision. Find a gym buddy. Eat with friends who support your goals.

5. Select activities you enjoy. It’s useless buying a treadmill if you know in your heart the equipment will only gather dust in the basement. Instead, go out for a walk. Or play ball with your kids. Swim. Take up tennis once again.

6. Eat Smart. This does not mean counting each calorie you eat, or measuring each grain of rice. To lose weight effectively, it is important to take in only the calories you need. But some find calorie counting too arduous. It’s simpler to start with just cutting out the obvious culprits – breads, cakes and sweets, fatty meat cuts, chips. Reduce your intake of these culprits. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole-grain fibers.
